So this game saw me up to the top table playing against Matt James who was organising the event. Me and Matt belong to the same club so have played each other allot over the years. I played Matt in the last tournament (Queens of War) in the 3rd round, it seems we were destined to meet earlier this time round. When we played in Queens of War I played a slightly different army, this time round Matt had the same list:
Hordes
Shock Troops 230
Shock Troops 230
Warriors 155

Vermintide 90

Monsters
Death Engine –Vile Sorcery 210

Heroes
Warlock -Scarletmaw’s Fenulian Amulet115
Warlock -Inspiring Talisman110
Warlock 90
Swarm-crier -The Boomstick75
Matt has has allot of success with this list and I had been dreading playing it... again. The last time we played I tactically hid in the corner. This time round I had no choice but to fight it head on., the game scenario was Dominate!
So my deployment for this game factored around the terrain in the middle. As there was a narrow corridor in the middle I decided to put my anvils (revenant horde and mummy regiment) in the middle and push them forward to block off anything heading for the middle. Hoping to get them into combat- I didn't foresee them lasting more than 2 rounds of concentrated shooting. I then put a heavy flanking force on my left hoping to break through quickly and swing round to bear down on Matts centre. On the right hand side I left a lonely troop of wraiths. charged with slowing down and harassing rather than breaking through.

Matt advanced his into the middle and i too an opportunity to block his advance with the mummies without the need for the revenants. Lucky for me as the wraith troop wasnt doing well and slowing anything down on the right side.

It was at this point I squeezed the revanant king into the flank of a horde of warriors and charged in the werewolves in the front. Their combined might took out the horde in 1 round freeing up the left field for advance,

I positioned the vamp to protect the werewolves flank. The Caterpillar wolves zipped to the board edge to begin the sweep into the middle. The werewolves and king on wyrm made short work of the warrior horde and threatened Matts centre, Forcing him to turn around. Again during this tournament the 5 point blade of slashing on the revenant king was a great boon, something I will uses if I have a spare 5 points more often

Meanwhile the Mummies are doing a good job of holding back the tide of shock troops while the Pharaoh ties up some of the lightening bolt from one of the warlocks. Miraculously the warlock hit back with his one attack and stopped the pharaoh from zipping off to tie up one of the death engines :(

The hindered warriors were unable to break the wounded revenant horde on the right. Life leech 2 kicks in and the grind continues

My left flank sweep through the death engines after a couple of turns and the vampire and pharaho finish what the mummies started and route one of the shock troop hordes

The revenants miraculously survive the vermintide in the flank to finish off the horde of warriors and turn to tie up the vermintide.

The casualties were heavy on both sides

Ultimately I squeezed enough into the centre to win the senario and killed enough to make it 18-2 . Looking back on this game I think the 2 warrior horde for Matt under performed where as my revenants took punishment from shooting and then a melee assault , the lifeleech 2 really helped allot during this match and something I will look to incorporate in my competitive lists more often.
